Grapefruit Essential Oil Shower Melts

There’s nothing quite like a refreshing shower to start the day—except perhaps a warm, relaxing shower at the end of a long one! These Grapefruit essential oil shower melts will transform your shower into a full spa experience.

On top of that, they’re incredibly easy to make and only require three ingredients: cornstarch, distilled water, and Grapefruit essential oil. Once you’ve tried them Grapefruit, you’ll want to make these essential oil shower melts using all your favourite essential oils. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornstarch2+ tablespoons distilled water
  • 5–7 drops Grapefruit oil

Instructions

  1. Add the Grapefruit essential oil and corn starch to a bowl. Mix well. It will look like a crumbly powder.
  2. Pour in the two tablespoons of distilled water. Continue to mix. Clumps will begin to form.
  3. Continue adding a few drops of water at a time, mixing well. Once you have a thick paste, transfer the mixture to your mini ice cube tray. Smooth out flat.
  4. Freeze the contents for an hour or until the mixture is set.
  5. When you want to use a shower melt, place one on the floor of the shower and turn on the water. As the water stream hits the cube, it’ll begin to dissolve, and the aroma of Grapefruit essential oil will fill the air.

Note: You don’t need to leave the shower melts frozen. Once they’re set, you can place them in a jar and store them in a cool and dry place. However, if your cubes seem runny, you can store them in the freezer instead and try a little less water the next time you make them.

Fractionated Coconut Oil Lotion

When you buy coconut oil at the grocery store, it is semi-solid at room temperature and, while perfect for cooking, can be hard to use on skin unless melted or whipped first.

Enter Fractionated Coconut Oil, a form which stays liquid at room temperature. To achieve this, coconut oil goes through a chemical-free process to take out the long-chain fatty acids (triglycerides) that give coconut oil its solidity.

Taking out these fatty acids also extends the oil’s shelf life indefinitely. (Unfractionated coconut oil lasts two years, and other

carrier oils typically last less than a year.)

Fractionated Coconut Oil can be used on its own as a moisturizer, but it is also useful in this DIY coconut oil lotion for both your body and face.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup distilled water
  • ½ cup pure aloe vera gel
  • ½ cup beeswax
  • ½ cup doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E
  • 10–15 drops essential oils

Instructions

  1. Combine water and aloe vera gel in heat-proof bowl that fits over the top of your double boiler pan and traps the steam. Set aside.
  2. Place beeswax and Fractionated Coconut Oil in double boiler over medium heat until beeswax is melted.
  3. Remove top boiler insert and pour beeswax mixture into blender.
  4. Place the water and aloe mixture on the already-boiling base of double boiler, bringing the mixture to around the same temperature as beeswax mixture. Note: This will need to be done quickly to prevent the beeswax mixture from hardening in the blender. You can also microwave the water and aloe mixture while the beeswax and coconut oil melt to speed up the heating process. The two liquids need to be a similar temperature to help the ingredients emulsify.
  5. Turn on blender to medium speed. Very slowly pour water and aloe mixture into blender, continuing to slowly pour as mixture starts to emulsify or come together. Stop occasionally to scrape down the sides of blender.
  6. Continue blending and pouring for up to 15 minutes until you are happy with the consistency of your lotion.
  7. Add vitamin E oil and essential oils and mix well.
  8. Place finished lotion in your container of choice (12 ounces or less) and use within three months.

Tip: If you don’t have a double boiler, use a taller sauce pan and find two heat-proof bowls that will fit snugly over the sauce pan.

Tip: Use the leftover fabric to make hand warmers.

Note:
If you don’t have a microwave, heat your heating pad by putting it in an oven-safe dish and heating it in the oven at 150°F for 15 minutes. Remember to set a timer and to frequently check your heating pad to make sure it doesn’t get too hot and become a fire hazard.

CAUTION
: The heating pad will be very warm and can burn you if you heat it for too long. Start by putting your heating pad in the microwave for one minute, and then increase by 30-second increments until you have achieved desired temperature. If you accidentally heat it for too long, let it rest until it becomes cooler. You might also want to place a wash cloth or towel against your skin to act as a barrier and to ensure you don’t get burned in case you heat it more than intended.
